Panasonic's Multi-Facet Asymmetrical Configuration Hyper-Pixel (MACH) panel features new materials and technology that improves the light-emitting efficiency and intensity of their plasma screens. The result is a deeper contrast ratio (up to 3,000:1 in dark areas), 2,048 shades of gradation (4,096 shades via HDMI or DVI connection and optional accessory board),3.62 billion full-time displayable colors. It's 720p high-definition display is compatible with a whole host of HD signals, from 1080i to 480p.

The TH-37PHD8UK also uses a host of Panasonic image improving features. Adaptive Gain Control raises contrast while suppressing noise by detecting and boosting only the image edges. Motion Picture Noise Disturbance Reduction detects motion patterns that tend to generate noise and makes adjustments to maximize image quality without diminishing the quality of stationary background objects. The Active Interlace/Progressive Conversion System reduces interlace to progressive conversion noise that often occurs when reproducing tiny movements, resulting in better vertical resolution.

Connections
The TH-37PHD8UK features both flexible A/V and IT system configurations. Built-in video connections include S-video, BNC, and component. Accessory boards expand your possibilities to include SDI, HD-SDI, HDMI, DVI-D w/HDCP, Twisted-Pair cable, and IEEE 802.11b. Have the set do double duty as your PC monitor, too, since it supports VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, and UXGA PC signals and comes with a common PC monitor port. The Remotes System Monitoring Command feature allows users to control their TH-37PHD8UK via RS-232C interface. If you really want to get fancy, a built-in wall processor allows you to array TH-37PHD8UKs in 2x2, 3x3, or even 4x4 multi-screen video walls.

37-inch Wide Screen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the TH-37PHD8UK is ideal for viewing distances of eight-and-a-half to 14 feet.

Other Features
Panasonic's new Advanced Dual Picture Mode simultaneously displays images from two different video sources or a video and PC source. 4x Digital Zoom allows you to divide the screen into zones and enlarge images up to 400%. The set also features enhanced screen saver and energy-saving functions.

Customer Review: Great TV, and get HDTV cable or satellite service, worth it...
With the help of a technically-minded nephew, we purchased this TV last year. The three main considerations for us were: 1) Budget-less than $1500.00 2) Space-needed to fit in the area we had our last TV (42" wide. This TV just made it with less than an inch to swivel, and it needed to fit on our current AV table. 3) Quality - HDTV capable, plasma, easy setup This unit is really great. All the features are terrific, with the input/output connections well placed, and easily accessed on the rear of the unit. I am soon getting a new DVD player to use with it, but not a Blu-Ray player because they are still too pricey for me. When we only watch standard, non-HDTV tv then there isn't a big difference between this unit and our last tv. The picture is okay, and you have to watch some shows with the black boxes on the side (ratios can be adjusted) However, this unit really shines when we watch the HDTV channels from Time/Warner cable. The HDTV package is extra $$$ but it is well worth it. Movies are incredibly detailed and rich. Sports are amazing. You can really catch the detail of the action. Recording HDTV shows look as though we are seeing real-time cable. This product is a year old, so Panasonic probably has newer models out. I highly recommend you include this unit in your HDTV search. Great bang for the buck (when you have HDTV service and a good DVD player....)

As time apes on electronics are becoming more condensed. Now it is no longer the case of the black and whites that we began with. Screen sizes and color of TVs have been upgraded. Entertainment centers are thriving on being compact while maintaining bulkiness.

TV DVD combo comes with a variety to choose from. Their foremost advantage is that they can save space because the DVD option is built exactly into the television. Talk about your complete packages.

My wife and I once desired to upgrade our bedroom by having a television, however she didn't want it to be overbearing and we wanted a DVD. So I set out to browse through Sears, I came upon the TV DVD combo whose price have dropped since time has passed like any other advanced electronic device. Now the hassles of DVDs have ended and the only thing now to do is to enjoy.

You get the two-in-one remote control, which does it all. It's a perfect collaboration. When I first tossed out the idea of the TV DVD combo to my father, he said, "But what if one breaks? That means they both don't work. Then what?" I had to roll my eyes. Come on, what if anything breaks? You end up fixing it or buying a new one. The fact is we've had ours for years and never had a problem with it. The sound and picture are great and the DVDs never skip. What else can one ask for? If you're interested in purchasing this set, the best place to do some evaluation and peruse is online. You can get an idea of price and size. Best Buy is also a great place to check when in the market for any electronics such as the combos.
