It's not hard to see why DVD players have taken the video world by storm. All you have to do is watch a movie on DVD and then watch that same movie on VHS tape instead. The difference can be startling. So just as CDs took over the audio world, DVDs are dominant in the video world, and DVD players are a staple of the home entertainment center, and certainly of a home theater setup too.

So what should you know when you shop for DVD players? Well, as with everything a lot depends on your budget but here are some of the features to look for when you buy a DVD player:

* In the electronics world, cable connections are very important and it's no different with DVD players. Almost all DVD players come with a standard composite-video cable to connect the player to the TV, and this kind of cable can produce a decent picture. But it's also very limiting because the black and white, and color video signals are all sent together through this cable and it's easy for the colors to bleed over into other colors and lose detail and sharpness. If your DVD p[layer comes with a S-video cable this can dramatically improve the video as this cable can separate out the black and white from the color signals resulting in greater clarity. Finally if you get a DVD player that can use a component-video cable that can be the best yet because it also splits the color signal too, allowing even greater color range and detail.

* It's good to have an aspect control feature on a DVD player too. Many DVD movies are coming now in different formats to fit whatever TV you have. The aspect control lets you take advantage of this and tune the movie to the specific ratio that best fits the size of your television screen.

* Some DVD players have multi-angle capability built in and that can be useful at times too. It doesn't work with all DVDs, but with those that are compatible, it's pretty cool. It actually allows you to adjust the picture angle so that you can view the action from different perspectives.

* Having surround sound decoding built into your DVD players can be very useful too, especially if you have a Dolby Digital receiver and at least six speakers to achieve the 5.1 surround sound effect. If your receiver does not have the Dolby 5.1 decoder built into it then you need to have it decoded by the DVD player before it is sent to the receiver. Once at the receiver the signal is amplified and distributed to the appropriate speakers in the room.
If you wish to use the more recent 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound systems you will need to have the decoder for that on your DVD player too, and either 7 or 8 speakers to match.

These are some of the features that can be most useful when you are playing DVDs, so look for them the next time you want to buy a DVD player.

When it's time to purchase new computer monitors, it is important that you know what to expect from a monitor, and how to select one that will do the best job for you.

Here are the top things you should consider when purchasing computer monitors:

- Size - Size is one of the main things to consider when purchasing computer monitors, but also the thing that will change the cost dramatically. General computer monitors range in size from 17 - 21 inches. If you are using your computer for general purposes, such as e-mail, writing, and typical online surfing, 17" monitors should be enough to do the job you need accomplished and keep your eyes happy. If you do a lot of graphics work on your system, you will need a larger and clearer image, and may look towards the larger screens.

- CRT or LCD - There are two types of computer monitors. CRT's are the older style of monitors that have the big backside, where the tubes are held to make the image appear. CRT's tend to be very reliable and have a long life. LCD monitors on the other hand are much more sleek, most being flat screen monitors and can fit into a much more compact desk space. They need a little more care to keep them going over the long run.

- Resolution - Resolution is how clear the picture is on your computer screen. The higher the numbers in the resolution, the clearer the picture you will see.

By now you may have heard that February 17, 2009 is that date when the change will take place, but the fact is that date is the deadline when the major broadcasting stations must stop broadcasting the analog signals and must make the change to digital. This means that many of the stations are already broadcasting the digital signal now.

There are three ways in which people receive a TV signal.

    Using a Satellite provider
    Using a cable provider
Over the air with either and indoor or outdoor antenna

The fact is that if you already have Cable or Satellite, the transition should not affect you at all. However if you are using an antenna, then there are some simple measures you will need to take in order to still receive a signal

Satellite already broadcasts, an all digital signal, and as long as you have a satellite receiver, nothing will change for you when the transition is made. Since a set-top box (receiver) is already required to receive a signal, all your sets will work fine regardless if the set is the newer digital type or the old analog type.

For those households that get their TV signals through their cable company, your current TV sets are connected to the cable either through a set-top box or the cable is plugged directly into your TV. People may also have some sets with boxes and others with just the cable connection

Since the FCC has agreed to allow cable companies to covert the new digital signals to analog signals that non-digital TV sets now receive, analog TVs in these cable homes will still be able to show a signal. Right now TVs will not require a set-top box until at least 2012.

As for the households without cable or satellite TV who still want to receive their TV signals for free, the answer is simple. All you need is an inexpensive DTV converter box, which will convert the new digital signals to analog signals. These boxes cost about $40.00 to $50.00 each, but homeowners can take advantage of the government coupon program that gives you a $40.00 credit toward the purchase of an approved convert box.

These boxes usually connect to the TV by way of the RCA jacks and you will need either rabbit ears or an attic or rooftop antenna to receive the signal into the box which then coverts the signal so that you can view the picture on the TV set. You do not have to go out and buy a new antenna if you already own one, because your existing antenna will work just fine. You will not have to replace your antenna with a DTV antenna, so don't be fooled into buying something you don't need.

There is one more option for over the air TVs and that is simply by a DTV with a built in tuner, and you will be able to receive the digital signal. Since almost all DTV sets are now HDTVs, you will have the added bonus of being able to receive any broadcast High Definition signals, which greatly enhances the picture. You will still however, need an antenna.

Here is one more bonus for those of you receiving your signal over the air; you will receive extra programming because of the multicast sub-channels that many broadcasters have to accompany their main broadcast channel.

In conclusion, as long as you make use of any of the three methods for receiving and converting the signals mentioned above before February 17, 2009, you won't be without a TV picture on your set.

I decided to buy our MAWA010B2 in red for myself. We sell this helicopter for a low cost and I wanted to see how they really fly. So I figured I'd get one and then I could do a flight review for my clients.

I received the MAW010B2 (for those who don't know MAW stands for Model Airplane Workroom) and it came ready to fly. It had the remote, AC adapter, rechargeable battery pack (Li-Po), and an adequate instruction manual on how to fly this RC. I opened the box and pulled everything out first. After I had it out, I wondered if the blades were broken and tried to straighten them out, and then I wanted to tighten them because they seemed way loose. That is ok, they are loose and can fold up, when you go to fly this RC helicopter, you don't have to tighten these blades, and you shouldn't tighten them, they will straighten themselves out immediately when you slowly push the throttle forward. Like other starter helicopters made in China, the instructions are a little hard to understand in parts, they aren't written by someone who speaks English as there 1st language, but you get the point. I didn't understand how long to charge the helicopter the very first time. After the first time you should charge the helicopter for 2 hours to really get some good flying time out of it.

Once I'd read everything and charged the battery up until it felt pretty warm, which was about 2 hours, I unplugged the charger and plugged the battery into the engine on the helicopter. This RC helicopter is nice because you just pull the front plastic piece forward by undoing the top two hooks and charge the battery while it is still on the helicopter, and when you are done, it takes ten seconds to hook the battery into the helicopter and pull down the plastic piece there for looks. The remote does need 8 AA batteries to work. Once I had those it was time to test it.

Make sure you have the antenna all the way extended, as this type of helicopter already only has about 30 feet or so of range. Don't allow this helicopter to get out of range, if it goes too high, just get underneath it and SLOWLY bring the throttle down, never less than half way, and if the helicopter starts to come down, push the throttle up to make the helicopter level out. I learned the hard way that if you let it start to fall too quick, hitting full throttle still won't slow this copter down enough, and the first thing to break will be the landing skids. Nothing that a little superglue, electricians tape and patience can't fix, but what a pain. So stay under it, and don't ever let it come down too quick. The bottom rails can be unscrewed and replaced, I still haven't figured out how to order extra parts for this particular model though, so if any of you figure it out, I would love to know.

Here is another piece of advice. The first time I flew this RC helicopter, it was outside, and a tad bit windy, I didn't really notice the wind, but my helicopter did. The first time you fly this RC, I would suggest either the inside of a gym, or just a really wide-open parking lot or field on grass might even be better. The first thing I did was slowly push the throttle up, got the propellers moving, then, as the instructions say to do, I pushed it up more to get the helicopter off the ground so it wouldn't tip over and break something. Once it's in the air though, make sure you pull back on the throttle somewhat so it doesn't fly up real high. My suggestion is to take your time the first three or four flights and just keep it like 6 to 8 feet off the ground, and practice turning it and getting it to fly in certain directions. Be patient, that is why I busted mine up, I wasn't being patient and wanted to "See what it could do" which obviously was a mistake.

When you turn on the remote the very first time. Turn on the helicopter first and the red light will light up, which is kind of cool at night, it lights up the front of the copter, which on my red helicopter looked good. But then when that is on, turn on your remote with the switch. The red light will flash, then it is off again. Slowly push the throttle all the way up once, you'll notice it won't turn on the helicopter yet. At the very top, full throttle (the left trigger), the light will blink really fast, then lower the throttle all the way down to the very bottom, and the light will stay on all the way, and then blink slower after a minute. Now you are calibrated and ready to fly.

Directly on the right of the left trigger is a sliding switch, the further it's slid up, the more throttle you'll get at all positions, I put mine 2/3rds of the way up. If your helicopter has a tough time getting a bit higher (not more than 20 to 30 feet), then turn this up. If it climbs too easily, turn this down. If you can't get up easily, also take into account that you may be out of batteries, and need to recharge. The right trigger is to turn the helicopter right or left with the use of the back propeller. It also can be pushed up to give you forward thrust, not a lot but some movement. It can be calibrated with all the sliding switches as well. I am not a pro at it yet, so you'll have to play with it, but while you are, low heights are suggested.

This helicopter can take a 5 or 6 foot fall when you mess up, just immediately turn the throttle all the way off, so the blades don't catch on the ground if it tips over, I can imagine that would break something, but I haven't had that problem yet.

Bottom line, the MAW010B2 is a great helicopter for beginner to intermediate flyer's, ages 12 and up, though I'd suggest those under sixteen have an adult, and you need to take the learning curve slow. The battery, fully charged, will last 10 - 15 minutes of solid flight. It could charge a bit quicker, but when it's ready, you forget the obnoxious wait. It is one of the better-looking starter models. Has a modern look. I have had several compliments on it already. With proper care and increased flight skills, I am sure that this particular electric RC helicopter will bring you plenty of enjoyment over time. To make it last longer, always recharge the battery right after flight exhaustion, and then give it 5 minutes before you take flight again to let the motor cool down. This will help prevent motor "burnout". Also, never leave the battery totally uncharged for a lengthy period of time. Storing a Li-Po battery uncharged could cause it to be unable to hold a charge and results in having to replace the battery sooner than later. Batteries are not cheap. And always, always fly in an area completely free of obstacles to reduce the chance of damage when you crash. If you are patient, and don't fly out of your range of control, she'll last a nice long time. It'll give you plenty of bang for your buck.

To see a picture or purchase the MAW010B2 come take a look at our site. Also, feel free to look at all of our other Electric RC Helicopters!

Customer Review: Good strip; but seems rather cheap quality.
When I saw this; I first thought this would be great for my computer as I have one from monster that's similiar (and 3 times the price (I purchased this for $50.00)). When I got it home, I was a little disappointed in the quality of it. It's very lightweight; not at all as sturdy as I would have thought from looking at it. Having said that; it does what it promises and I do like it a lot! For the price, you can't go wrong (assuming it stays around $50.00 ;) )
Customer Review: Item received not item pictured or described
Product description indicates this unit comes with a 9 foot power cord...which is why I ordered it. Unit I received had 6 foot power cord. Unit shipped also does not come with the accessories indicated in description. No coax, no phone cable. I contacted seller and will update this review after I see how they plan to correct this. Update 8/26: Seller indicated they did have the same model with the 9 foot cord and indicated accessories, but refused to send replacement until I returned the incorrect one. They then sent an email with return instructions insisting I would have to PAY for insured return shipping!! They acknowledged there was a model with a 9 foot cord as advertised in their specs, and that they did not send me that model, but did not seem to find any fault with themselves? Beware the east coast online electronics retailers!! Took advantage of Amazon A-Z Guarantee and had my refund in 3 days. AMAZON'S CUST SERVICE IS ALWAYS NO HASSLE AND AWESOME!! I always buy items that indicate "Shipped from and sold by Amazon" when possible, but took a chance this time. Who came through....47th Street Photo? NO!! Amazon did!!

A wireless speaker home theater system allows you the freedom to place your speakers anywhere in a room without having to figure out how to hide the speaker wires.

There are two types of wireless speaker home theater systems - add-on systems and integrated systems.

    Add-On Wireless Home Theater System

If you already have a home theater system you can purchase an add-on system consisting of a transmitter, a receiver, and surround-sound speakers if you don't already have them.

The transmitter is connected to the home theater amplifier and sends out the audio signal to a receiver. The receiver, which is connected to the rear speakers, picks up the signal from the transmitter and sends it to those speakers.

Most wireless home theater systems have front speakers and a subwoofer that are connected to the amplifier with audio cables, and rear speakers that are connected to the receiver to create surround-sound audio.

You can purchase a decent amplifier/receiver system for less than $100.

    Integrated Wireless Home Theater System

If you're in the market for a new wireless home theater system, you can purchase a complete system consisting of an amplifier with built-in transmitter, a front center speaker, two front side speakers, a subwoofer, and two rear surround-sound speakers. Some systems also include a DVD player.

Prices for an integrated wireless home theater system start at $175 and go up to $2,000.

    Comparing Wireless Home Theater Systems

The best way to get the best price on a wireless home theater system is to try them out in person, then go comparison shopping online.

Start by taking a trip to your local discount or electronics store so you can try out the various wireless home theater system models. Test the controls and listen to the models in your price range until you find the one you like best.

After you find a system you like, go home, fire up your computer, and start comparison shopping online.

Comparing models and prices at an online comparison shopping site will save you countless hours of going store to store or surfing all the Internet stores. Here, in one place, you can find prices for everything under the sun from hundreds of online and offline stores.

The comparison shopping site I use will not only give you a price comparison on wireless home theater systems, it will also give you product specifications, reviews by audio experts, and consumer reviews by people who actually own the product so you'll know how good the system is.

When you find the store with the lowest price, you can get consumer reviews of that store so you'll know if it's reputable and will give you good service.

Some stores even have a lowest-price guarantee so if you find a better price later you can get a rebate on the price difference from that store.

I've purchased a number of high-ticket items this way and have always gotten good service and a great price.
